Revived classic horror adventure game
Aooni is a premium adventure game developed by Game Studio Inc. and is the revival of the classic horror RPG of the same name. In it, players will delve into a mysterious mansion to investigate rumors of it being haunted. Things turn for the worse as tall tales become a waking nightmare.
Beware the oni
Aooni revolves around the legendary Ao Oni, a horrific humanoid creature after a group of four students who just entered its domain. Every time one of you gets killed, you turn into an Oni that will chase the rest. With no way of fight back, you must outrun and hide from them while solving various puzzles to find a way to escape.
Building upon the original game, there's a new High Speed Mode that speeds up the gameplay to increase the challenge. It also introduces a new story called Ai's Story the provides a fresh new character experience with multiple endings. All that said, the visuals changes in this version are quite divisive and there are some mistranslation in the text and dialogue.
Highly divisive
Aooni manages to revive a classic horror adventure, complete with various improvements and even new mode. That said, the visual changes has players divided and the various mistranslation issues detract from the overall experience. If you're a fan of the original, this is not quite the ideal revival, but it is a commendable effort that's worth checking out.
